About Sand Ridge Charter School

Established in 2002 as a conversion charter school, this K–8 public school is operated by People Involved in Education, Inc. (PIE), an organization with a successful history of educational service since 1992. The school provides a back-to-basics, direct instruction approach with a rigorous curriculum, small class sizes, individualized learning plans, and strong family involvement.

  • Sand Ridge Charter School is a conversion charter school, established in 2002 after converting from an alternative school model. 

  • We are operated by People Involved in Education, Inc. (PIE), which has successfully served students since 1992.

  • We serve students in kindergarten through eighth grade.

  • We offer a rigorous curriculum featuring Core Knowledge, the Riggs Institute’s Writing and Spelling Road to Reading and Thinking, Shurley Grammar/Language Arts, Excellence in Writing, Saxon Math, McGraw-Hill resources in Science and Reading, and Core Knowledge texts in Reading and Social Studies.

  • We emphasize a back-to-basics approach with a strong focus on direct instruction.

  • We provide small learning groups and small classroom sizes, typically around 20 students.

  • We have a highly qualified teacher in each classroom, supported by a teacher assistant and parent volunteers.

  • We provide individualized learning plans to support each student’s needs.

  • We place a strong emphasis on parental involvement and encourage ongoing engagement in the educational process.

  • We welcome homeschool families and students seeking an alternative educational environment within the public school system.

Immunization and Exemption Rates

Oregon law requires schools to share immunization and exemption rates with families. This information reflects the percentage of students with non-medical exemptions compared to the percentage of students who are up to date on required immunizations.

​

For the 2017–18 school year:

  • Sand Ridge Charter School’s non-medical exemption rate was 4%.

  • PIE Preschool and Daycare’s non-medical exemption rate was 3%.
